Aromatherapy is combined with different types of massage based on the use
of essential oils that are derived from plants. The essential oils are not
concentrated from whole plant parts, but they are extracted from flowers,
roots, barks, leaves, resin, peel or grasses by a process known as steam distillation. Many people claim that aromatherapy treatments work on people
both physically and psychologically. One theory states that when aromatherapy
treatments are used along with massage oil, the smell of the essential oil
triggers the limbic system, which is part of the brain that controls emotions and
stores and recovers learned memories. This is what makes you relax in the end.
Another theory is that when the essential oils are absorbed through the skin
when combined with massage oil, the medicinal properties of that particular
essential oil act on the cause of that particular problem the client is
experiencing. By added aromatherapy to your massage treatment it can help
ease a wide assortment of ailments; easing aches, pains, and injuries, relaxing,
uplifting, sedating or stimulating, and bringing back balance to help restore
both physical and emotional wellbeing.
